Gorgoroth - Black Metal

Gorgoroth, eternal latecomers to the Norwegian black metal party, are the band responsible for introducing the retarded 'theistic satanist' lyrics to black metal, in an era were most bands were either pagan or atheist. Thus, they are as moronic as so-called 'unblack' metal bands, and equally guilty of plaguing the genre with Christian mythology where most bands were perfectly content to write music about Norse gods or European history.

To get an idea of how unbelievably stupid 'theistic satanism', also called 'orthodox satanism', really is, you'd have to imagine someone wearing a Darth Vader t-shirt because he 'hates Star Wars'. Just visualise the absolute stupidity of someone believing he's 'opposing Star Wars' or 'blaspheming against Star Wars' because he roots for Darth Vader. You'd think he's either mentally retarded, or pulling your leg. So that's the dilemma with Gorgoroth, are they mentally retarded to the point of actually believing in 'devil worship', or are they lucratively pulling our collective leg? Reading some interviews by frontman Infernus, it becomes quite clear that it's the former in much more abundant quantity than the latter.

As for Gorgoroth's music, it's overrated Ulver/Ancient/Gehenna worship of the worst kind, only made even more bland and tasteless. There's very little resemblance with Norwegian black metal on most Gorgoroth albums, besides the distortion and vocals, their music feeling closer to a carnival fair of random folk mixed in with third-rate Iron Maiden riffs played with distortion, to cover their trails like the closet 'unblack' metal band they are.
