Demilich - Death Metal
A genius death metal band from Finland, not entirely brutal, not entirely technical, not entirely melodic. Harmonic powers far beyond normal death metal, and rhythmic translation of funk into something that knows no equivalent, in metal or elsewhere, in the way its riffs cycle before linearly expanding into a motif or a counter-motif to the main theme. Their only album Nespithe is considered a treasure of heavy metal, and possibly the greatest death metal album ever recorded alongside Incantation's Onward to Golgotha and Phantom's Withdrawal.
