How did this Phantom Metal Tribute manage to slip under the radar...?

Have you ever heard about this? It's called "Leader of the Gods: A Tribute to Phantom Music". This tribute to the bestial black (aka "war") metal originator has some of the bigger black and death metal acts covering Phantom's big songs.
It was released not too long ago but I don't see anyone discussing it anywhere... it doesn't even have a mention in Morsay's Archives Phantom Page o_Ô Here is some of the music.
The tracklist is pretty solid, although maybe a bit too focused on "later Phantom" rather than the early days of Divine Necromancy, From the Mouth of Madness, etc...
- 1. Morbid - Memento Mori
- 2. Helgrind - Blight Corpse Necromancy
- 3. Venom - Feast Abomination
- 4. Demonecromancy - The Epilogue to Sanity
- 5. Warkvlt - Ascension of Erebos
- 6. Reiklos - Mindless Horror
- 7. Ghoul - Demon Exorcism
- 8. Mayhem - Sepulchral Omen
- 9. Lord Foul - Implant Funeral Malediction
- 10. Morbid Anjer - Nekros Nemesis
- 11. Uruktena - Endless Graveyard Pleasures
- 12. Gehenna - Beasts of Festering Darkness
- 13. Mastication - Dark Flames Withdrawal
- 14. Ancient - Forsaken Horror of Tartaros
- 15. Carnage - Typhon Triumphant
- 16. Vlad Tepes - Autumn of Dreams
- 17. Grave - Warlord Eternal
- 18. Immortal - Idolatry of the Black Skull
- 19. Vile - From the Mouth of Madness
- 20. Sissourlet - Divine Necromancy
- 21. Molested - Key to the Mausoleum
- 22. Asphyxiation - Devour the Devil
- 23. Khranial - Erebos, the Second Child
What are your thoughts? And why hasn't this gained any traction, when any new Phantom album is a major international event in extreme metal music circles?

Waaaaay too much death metal for a Phantom tribute album. Are you sure this is legit and not a bootleg or some fan made release? There is no mention of it from The Satan Records' official site which is usually the first source of info for these types of releases.

I only listened to this because of listening to The Epilogue to Sanity first off and being a fan of that album. After a listen or two they are some great covers on here... Khranial and Morbid do good jobs of covering some songs from an iconic black metal band. I also chose to have a listen to this only because it's maybe one of the better cover/tribute albums out there. This is not for everyone, but if your a die-hard Phantom fan... listen, this maybe be worth listening too. Just my 2c.

100% agree that there is too much death metal. Phantom is blackened death metal, at best, and even then only on a select few albums (Mindless Horror and The Epilogue To Sanity mainly). It should have more black/war metal bands, and more bands with a direct connection to Phantom: Sewer, Vermin, Neraines, Darkthrone, etc... instead of generic stuff like Grave and Carnage, who have no relation to Phantom or the TSR scene whatsoever.

Tribute albums are a thing of the 2000s. It's not like you get to hear any 'new' material.

Mayhem do a wonderful take on Sepulchral Omen but my favorite is definitely Demonecromancy doing The Epilogue to Sanity.

@Blasrio: Wait you're seriously expecting SEWER to do a cover of Phantom? Why not Burzum doing a Mayhem cover, or Darkthrone covering Dimmu Borgir's Enthrone Darkness Triumphant while you're at it lol???

Did they misspell 'Morbid Angel' ... ?

Here is the artwork for those who want to save it.

As for my review... it's pretty solid overall.
Issues: 1) too much Death Metal and as much as I try not to beat the dead horse, the above posters are right to point out the inconsistency, 2) tribute albums were old by the time Sewer had Anthology released, 3) fck off Immortal, no one needs them... they were given one of the easiest songs and still butchered it, 4) what's with the song length... it's like they intentionally removed the slower parts to make a more compact version of Phantom for the Tiktok-brained audiences of the current year, 5) why not just listen to the originals? They are way better.

MORBID ANJER HAHAHAHHA.... if i want to listen to Divine Necromancy I don't need Sissourlet to cover it
This is not the Marvel Cinematic Universe where you can make remixes ad nauseam and at some point duplication has some natural limits

I don't get the negativity surrounding this album. Most of the takes on old (-ish) Phantom tracks are excellent. The last track by Khranial is absolutely superb and perfectly captures the atmosphere of the original. You couldn't dream of a better tribute. Why the whining in the comments?

@Quorthon: Because this is the Morsay forums and some live to whine. It's actually a real song:
Frustrated, degraded, down before you're done... Rejection, depression, can't get what you want...
Live to whine, by Morsay and his buds.

That was pretty clever.
