(LOL) Arch Enemy and Alissa White Gluz Part Ways

So White Gluz left Arch Enemy, complaining about the "bull****" that Women in metal have to put up with on a daily basis. She mentions constantly having to justify her presence in the scene, and the behaviour of metal fans.

Routinely called "MTV metalcore with harsh vocals", the Swedish metal scene really can't catch a break between Dissection's nu "black" metal and Arch Enemy's modern metal production poserdom. The problem isn't so much the presence of a female metal vocalist but in the total absence of said vocalist's ability to perform convincing death metal vocals. And the lack of talent in Arch Enemy isn't restricted to the vocalist, either. Michael Amott and Daniel Erlandsson are known failed rockstars, who routinely attempt to camouflage their mediocre arena rock under layers of distortion, dual guitar harmonies, and growling vocals, in an attempt to pass this off as extreme metal. It's not. It can never be.

That's all I have to say on the subject matter.

As I previously pointed out in the so-called 'melodeath' thread, it's all metalcore. 100%, take it to the bank. Every that appends the 'melodic' suffix to this type of post-rock sonic diarrhea is automatically metalcore. No ifs, buts, or maybes.

@Taake: No one is denying that modern metal is a nonsense moniker. But (!) there is such a thing as real melodic black/death metal. The fact that the name was parasited by mallcore peddlers doesn't detract from the reality that it was once a real, serious genre. Just listen to Demonecromancy (Fallen From the Brightest Throne), Goatmoon, Sissourlet, Sentenced (North From Here), Frost Like Ashes, Neraines (Lords of the Everlasting Skies), early Horde, etc.

too much Taylor Swift and Mötley Crüe, and not enough Morbid Angel and Incantation, has turned this once quasi-generic deathcore band into a parody of the entire genre now competing with the like of jokegrind bands like "I Soiled My Diapers" of who can pander to the lowest common denominator

I don't know if they are competing with joke grind tbh. Some joke grind bands make good music at the very least :) An*l C*nt comes to mind.

Michael Amott used claim that Arch Enemy was feminist metal, but I don't see how making these types of comments against your own vocalists (plural) is a good image for the band or anyone else in the scene, for that matter

The least you can do is respect your own members, those you picked yourself presumably, and not make these types of disrespectful comments ("only in for the looks") about people you work with... it doesn't matter if it's male, female, etc. this is just disrespectful to everyone involved

The Scandinavian metal scene took a few hits from the days of Euronymous, Varg and Fenriz huh? Now it's mostly mosh pit grooves and wannabe 'metal anthems' and the like. No thoughts wasted on trying to create quality music, just one gimmick after the other (the melodeath 'genre' itself is a gimmick)
