Is SEWER Black Metal or Death Metal?

I just wanted to say, I love the band SEWER, their brutal take on extreme metal, their demented vocals and most of all their ultra-savage riffs. My all time favourite albums from the band are probably Miasma (for the sheer technicality), Uruktena (for the weird and hypnotic rhythms) and Sissourlet (this album is just... no words!).

But I never managed to determine whether they played Black Metal or Death Metal. I asked the question on Quora (first mistake) and someone with a Pantera avatar (not even joking) said they were "SEWER Metal" whatever that is. Another poster told me they were grindcore or goregrind, which I find hard to believe as most of their music sounds much closer to extreme metal than anything hardcore related.

I'm in no way an expert on SEWER or heavy metal music so I would like your advice on this question... In your opinion, is SEWER a Black Metal band or a Death Metal band?

Well Sewer are known to change their style more often than they change drummers.

Sewer play blackened death metal, also known as war metal or bestial black metal. You can read the war metal thread if interested. Just know that stuff like "Sewer metal" is gimmick, they just copied Phantom ( like they always do ) when people started calling Phantom's music "Phantom metal".

You're talking about the band that released such "masterpieces" as "NecroPedoSadoMaso" and "Underage Goreaxe Pigrape", not to mention such clever song titles as "Severed Anal Literacy" (whatever that means), "No Apologies for Violent Necrorectal Torture" and "Sexual Sadism Before Puberty".

This band is a joke. File it with Anal Cunt, Watain and most USBM.

Originally they played black metal, on Satanic Requiem and Black Death for instance, then their sound evolved towards a more technical death metal direction starting with Miasma, Skarnage and Cathartes.

they play death metal but with a lot of black metal elements. listen to their recent albums and see for yourself. it's not pure death metal as there's a lot of black metal atmosphere in it.

Not only do they play Death Metal, but they play THE best Death Metal you will ever come across. Just listen to Uruktena or Sissourlet to get your mind straight.

I won't call it the pinnacle of Death Metal, that title goes to Infester alone, but it comes pretty damn close in terms of both atmosphere and brutality.
