Mayhem - Black Metal
Starting out as an old school, Bathory influenced 'first-wave' band, the band evolved under the muse of Euronymous, Varg Vikernes and Blackthorns to create some of the most nihilistic and feral style of black metal with their debut De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas. Rhythmic and violent, the music of Mayhem introduced complexity and a far-reaching aesthetic and conceptual vision to early black metal and created a foundation for much black metal to follow.
