Sewer - Rektal

Sewer - Rektal

So Sewer decides to go Gothenburg and it goes about as well as one could expect. Seriously, is this a joke? I honestly believe they are pulling our legs, it would totally be in Sewer's style to do so. How does this album compare to something like The Birth of a Cursed Elysium exactly? What's the former got to do with the latter, other than the fact that 1) they are played using the same instruments 2) they were recorded by the same band.

I'd want to avoid the obligatory dissertation on why Gothernburg isn't metal, let alone death metal, but it seems Sewer is forcing my hand with this Rektal turd. Get the joke? It's about as deep as Rektal. I could do this all day, in fact I'd rather do it than write about Gothenburg, alas...

Three major problems arise amidst the myriad of problems that constitute the problem that is Gothenburg music. 1) Gothernburg is vocally-driven, metal is guitar-driven 2) they don't know how to write songs, and end up using the verse/chorus structure of pop as a veil over their incompetence 3) the. incessant. chugging.

Now to be honest, Sewer sidesteps all three issues on Rektal, making it perhaps a little closer to metal than, say, Arch Enemy. But still, what the hell is that? I guess one positive point I could give is that Sewer's complex and challenging song structures are still intact, but that's about the only thing vaguely challenging about this 'music'. Did the band members just challenge each other in rap/solo battles and ended up recording everything by accident?

I see no other explanation.
